Sometimes we just need to have a little fun! I think that is one reason I love Halloween 🙂
My husband and I have many decorations for Halloween, but sadly, none for the outside of our home. This year I was determined to change that!
As we are currently fixing up our house, and I recently started a new job at the local library (which I LOVE!), funds are a little low. I did what I do best, and tried to make something out of nothing..lol…
I found a 2×4 in the garage, and decided to use this, some scrap wood, and paint to create the most adorable Halloween decoration I could 🙂

I took the wood and cut it into 6 different pieces, all varying in size. After sanding, I began painting the Universal Monsters upon each board.

Well, that went great, except I realized I forgot Dracula! How could I forget Dracula?

I had painted a grave on a board, and decided to use it, and another piece of scrap wood to bring Dracula into the picture.
I painted Dracula onto the scrap wood, and wrote a special message about Dracula and his friends for the Trick or Treaters to see 🙂

After painting Dracula, I realized the purple was much too dark, so once it dried, I applied a light purple on his skin. I think it worked out perfectly!
Once all the paint was dry, I applied 6 layers of polyurethane onto the wood. I know in Ohio the weather on Halloween can be quite wet, so I wanted to really protect this project. I put so much on, that it pooled in the back a bit, but I didn’t care. No one would see that part.

As I tried to figure out how to stand these beautifully painted Monsters, I remembered I had some wood corners I had used earlier this year to add concrete to our eroding foundation. I knew I wasn’t going to use that wood for anything else, so I sanded it, painted it, and screwed it to my designs.

I think, all in all, this turned out wonderfully! Now the baskets hang, awaiting the candy ready for those passing by.

I just hope it brings a smile to all who see it, in person and online 🙂 There is nothing like a homemade decoration bringing joy to all 🙂

I hope you all have an amazing Halloween!
